Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities

Quattrox4 Company pays homage to Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities with a contemporary circus show that brings the audience to an imaginative experience and practice.

Starting from the writer’s living, kaleidoscopic and visionary writing, director Clara Storti conceived an itinerant show build around small objects of scenography and tiny installations that develop the dramaturgy of the contemporary circus show.

The young audience participates in the creation of the spaces. Through material and tactile activation, kids and adults co-create fragile worlds and multiple constellations together, shaping a collective universe of cities in continuous transformation that the circus artists inhabit with strength and fragility.

The aim of this interactive show is to question spatial coordinates through the use of unusual objects in unconventional spaces, thus reshaping the notion and the traditional functions of the circus apparatus. The relationship between the artists and the spectators are turned into a dialogical and polymorphic experience which is continuously changing.

BAUCI is a refined performance in which contemporary circus builds a bridge between reality and utopia, becoming the creator of an evocative narrative like Calvino’s, opening our eyes to what is, what could be and what we would like our world to be.

The performance consists of 5 scenes (one for each city of the novel). They can be staged either outdoors or indoors in non conventional spaces. For each staging context, we select 3 or 4 scenes i.e. Invisible Cities, which best suit the spatial and technical possibilities of the venue.
